What Makes a Security System Compliant?

Bridging the Gap Between Regulation and Readiness

In Dubai, SIRA compliance isn’t just paperwork— it’s a critical part of running any business with physical premises. We’ve seen plenty of sites with impressive cameras and access control systems, yet they fail the audit because the setup doesn’t align with SIRA’s precise standards.

So, what does make a security system truly compliant?

SIRA Compliance Is About the Details:

  • Approved Hardware Only You can’t just buy the latest camera because it’s “better.” If it’s not SIRA-certified, it’s non-compliant—period.
  • Camera Specs and Placement Different areas have different requirements for image size, angle, and coverage. For example, Entrance cameras must be installed at a vertical angle not exceeding 20 degrees, with the captured image covering at least 120% of the subject within the field of view.
  • Recording and Retention Most sites are required to retain video recordings for a minimum of 31 days, and the storage systems must be adequately equipped to support this duration.
  • Integration with SIRA Certain facilities—especially critical infrastructure—must connect their systems to the SIRA Command Center for monitoring.
  • Power Redundancy Your security systems must keep running during power cuts for a defined period.

Our auditors verify compliance with all these requirements during the audits.

Compliance is More Than Hardware

Here’s where many businesses slip:

  • Config and Tuning It’s not enough to just install devices. Are your cameras recording at the right resolution? Frame Rates? We check all these technical details.
  • Documentation Our auditors review all relevant documents, including maintenance and connectivity certificates, device approval certificates. Missing documentation can quickly lead to an audit failure.
  • Staff Training Whether you're a service provider or an end user, ensuring your team is trained to install and maintain the surveillance system according to SIRA standards not only ensures compliance but also enhances system efficiency and reliability.

Bridging the Gap

To ensure a smooth process:

  • Involve certified professionals early – Retrofits are expensive.
  • Conduct site assessments – A bank’s needs are not the same as a warehouse’s.
  • Test before audits – Do a dry run of your audit.
  • Stay updated – SIRA guidelines evolve, so should your knowledge.

Final Word

In Dubai, compliance is non-negotiable. A security system isn’t compliant just because it “works”—it must meet technical, operational, and regulatory standards set by SIRA.

The cost of getting it wrong? Fines, delays, and sometimes losing your license.

Bottom line: compliance is about readiness, not just regulation. It’s worth getting it right the first time.
